Further demonstrating our dedication to incorporate the most state-of-the-art, patient-friendly equipment into your eye exam, the UAMS Jones Eye Institute has added the Pentacam.
We recently became the first site in Arkansas to acquire the newest version of the Pentacam from Oculus, Inc. This sophisticated diagnostic tool used in measuring the refractive characteristics of the eye can only be found at about 25 other sites in the country.
The Pentacam has several practical uses but is utilized mainly to determine which patients are a good candidate for refractive surgery and to identify patients who have had refractive surgery and may now need cataract surgery. The advanced technology of the Pentacam allows both the refractive and cataract surgeons at UAMS to precisely measure corneal structure and power and to develop successful screening parameters for intraocular lens implantation.
By creating a 3D map of the eye, the Pentacam allows us to personalize treatment and provide a greater assurance of safety and effectiveness for patients. Please
