The Neurology Clinic at UAMS is home to one of the world's best neuromuscular programs, including Arkansas' first Muscular Dystrophy Association ALS Research Center.

We have world-class experts in every neuromuscular specialty and subspecialty, as well as active research programs in both the clinical and basic science aspects of neuromuscular disorders and diseases.

Neuromuscular disorders affect the nerves that control your voluntary muscles, such as the ones you use to move your arms and legs. This can lead to twitching, cramps, aches and pains, as well as joint and movement problems. Neuromuscular disorders may also affect your heart function and ability to breathe.

Examples of neuromuscular disorders include:

Amyotrophic kateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig's disease
Multiple sclerosis
Muscular dystrophy
Myasthenia gravis
Spinal muscular atrophy

Most neuromuscular disorders have no cure, so excellent medical treatment is crucial to ensure that you have the best quality of life. The goal of treatment is to improve symptoms, increase mobility and lengthen life.
