FAQ and DirectionsClinic FAQ and Directions

If your doctor has recommended that you have an MRI, UAMS offers you the best medical staff along with state-of-the-art equipment to ensure accuracy in your test results.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a noninvasive imaging technique that provides our doctors with detailed images of body structures using radiofrequency waves produced by a magnet. Combining a strong magnetic field and radio frequency waves, these systems can probe the deepest tissues of the body for the diagnosis of disease. We use MRI for diagnosing and guiding treatment for disease and injury as part of our comprehensive radiology services.

UAMS also performs MRI imaging of the breast using a technique known was RODEO (ROtating Delivery of Excitation Off-resonance).
RODEO Breast MRI is at least twice as sensitive as mammography and three times as specific. Each RODEO Breast MRI exam produces hundreds of 3-D cross-sectional images of the breast, which are then analyzed and reported by our doctors.

UAMS was one of the first hospitals in the state to install a 3.0 Tesla MRI unit. A Tesla is a unit of measurement for magnetic field strength and the 3.0 Tesla unit can produce higher quality images faster than the 1.5 Tesla MRI that is commonly used.
