The Gamma Knife is the ideal treatment system, integrating diagnostic images, treatment planning and dose delivery into a smooth flow of information. A seamless procedure involving push-button operation, the Gamma Knife afford comfort and ease to patients at every level. The collimator system, which delivers 192 cobalt 60 beams of radiation, offers full cranial reach, allowing for treatment of a variety of anatomical structures. The patient positioning system can move the patient into the correct position based on the beams’ isocenter, optimizing the radiation dose to the target, lesions that can range from pea-sized to 1.5 inches in diameter.
Because the Gamma Knife provides highly accurate irradiation of deep-seated targets, the Perfexion technology allows for the treatment of what where once considered inoperable lesions. And the short treatment time and rapid recovery time of patients eases the cost of care on all levels. Patients who are able to get back to work and a normal life sooner as a result of the Gamma Knife system are able to become a productive part of society sooner, with less convalescence time.
