Laboratory Screening Tests
The lab tests we will perform during your comprehensive executive physical at the UAMS Family Medical Center include:
Blood Counts
- Hemoglobin and hematocrit counts - test for anemia (iron deficiency)
- White blood cell count - test for bacterial infections and other conditions
- Platelet count - test for proper blood coagulation
Blood Chemistries
- Glucose – test for diabetes or hypoglycemia
- Potassium and calcium – tests to assess proper electrolyte balance
- HDL & LDL cholesterol and triglycerides – tests to screen for appropriate and healthy levels of cholesterol and fats in the blood
- Uric acid – screening for gout
- Total protein, albumin, SGOT and SGPT – tests liver function
- Sedimentation rate – tests for inflammatory or infectious disorders
- Urinalysis – test for kidney or bladder problems
- Stool guaiac – test for hidden blood in the stool
- Prostate specific antigen (PSA) – for men only, a screening test for prostate disease
- HIV (AIDS) test – optional
