More than 10 million Americans have osteoporosis, and another 34 million have low bone mass that puts them at risk for developing the disease that weakens bones. Osteoporosis is often called a "silent disease" because you might not notice symptoms before a bone fracture occurs.

The doctors and registered nurses in the Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Disease Clinic at UAMS are dedicated to helping you maintain strong, healthy bones. Our goal is to detect bone loss as early as possible and then help you successfully manage the condition.

Fortunately, osteoporosis is easily diagnosed with a quick and simple, painless bone density test (also called bone densitometry). All of our patients receive this important test as part of a thorough initial examination and follow-up evaluations.
