MammoVan
 |
In 2009, more than 1,800 Arkansas women were diagnosed with breast cancer, and more than 400 died from it. UAMS is doing our part in joining the fight against breast cancer not only in Little Rock and Central Arkansas but around the state. And now we have the MammoVan, which is a new tool in the detection of breast cancer.
The MammoVan is a three-room mobile unit that is equipped with the most advanced digital mammography technology. At UAMS, we not only want to bring the latest technology to you but also our caring and knowledgeable staff members. So this van is staffed with a certified mammography technologist and a technical assistant.
We hope that the MammoVan will serve 1,000 women this year all around the state. We travel to 26 Arkansas counties that lack FDA-approved certified mammography facilities. The MammoVan provides digital screening along with education and greater awareness about breast cancer.
After your screening, you should receive your test results in one to two weeks. The results will be sent to your primary care physician. If your mammogram shows an abnormality or cause for concern, you will be referred for a follow-up to the appropriate services.
The MammoVan is handicapped accessible to accommodate patients of all needs. It contains a wheelchair lift entering directly into the mammography suite. And it was designed so that women can be in either a standing or seated position during the testing.
Our goal is to help you in the detection, education and fight against breast cancer. We hope to reach out to all parts of the state of Arkansas, making this service easy and convenient for you.
