Liver Transplant
Buoyed by the state's only liver transplant program, our liver team brings all of the expertise necessary to care for your body's largest internal organ. This service is part of our multi-organ transplant program.
UAMS has a history of Arkansas medical firsts. We added another in 2005 when Arkansas' first liver transplant was performed at UAMS. Our Medicare-certified program has reported survival rates ahead of national averages since its inception.
Surgeon Frederick Bentley, M.D., joined our transplant program in 2006 after leading a transplant program in Kentucky.
By teaming expert surgical staff with a comprehensive group of multidisciplinary transplant physicians and numerous other support specialists, we offer our transplant patients and their families the finest in transplant care through our caring and compassionate team.
In January 2009, the Scientific Registry for Transplant Recipients reported that UAMS' one-year patient survival rate was 98.25%, compared with the national average of 87.85%.
Arkansans with end-stage liver disease, liver cancer or other liver conditions no longer must travel out of state for the extensive care they need before, during and after a liver transplant or other treatment. Our comprehensive liver service provides seamless, team-oriented care for patients with critical liver problems.
