At UAMS, we offer world-class treatment to patients suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

ALS is a progressive neuromuscular disease of the brain and spinal cord, affecting the nerve cells that control voluntary movement. ALS often begins with muscle twitching and weakness in an arm or leg or with slurring of speech. Diagnosing a patient with ALS requires a number of medical tests, and all of these tests are available to you at UAMS.

Since UAMS is a teaching hospital, our caring and compassionate specialists have access to state-of-the-art equipment and technology to provide the best treatment to you.

Medical care for ALS varies based on many factors, so we offer personalized treatment plans. With treatment designed to meet your individual needs, we can help you improve your quality of life.
