College of Medicine

The UAMS College of Medicine is ranked among the top medical schools in the United States, based on research funding, education and patient care.  Accomplishments in clinical care have earned national recognition for our faculty, including high rankings in the U.S. News and World Report.

Partner With UAMS
Your support helps establish stable funding for the College of Medicine — making certain that the healthcare needs of our community will always be met.

UAMS is currently involved in a comprehensive campaign to ensure a healthier future for Arkansans. A significant portion of Campaign Imagine, which has a goal of $325 million, will be designated to fund critical initiatives within the College of Medicine.

Funding Opportunities
Current funding opportunities within the College of Medicine include the following:

Medical Student Scholarships
Tuition at the UAMS College of Medicine is one of the lowest in the nation, but medical school is still very expensive.  Offering substantial scholarships of at least $10,000 per year to UAMS medical students allows us to keep the best and the brightest students here in Arkansas.

An endowed scholarship can be established in honor or memory of someone with a gift of $10,000 or more. You can also contribute to existing scholarships, such as:
  • The Raymond Miller Scholarship for Underrepresented Minorities – goal of $400,000
  • College of Medicine Alumni Class Scholarships - $250,000 goal for each class
Clinical Simulation Center
A world-class Clinical Simulation Center will provide a place where UAMS students, residents, and other health care providers can train on life-like manikins to learn technical skills and practice managing complex medical situations before being confronted with them for the first time in a live human being.

This new center will complement the existing state-of-the-art UAMS Center for Clinical Skills Education.  A range of naming opportunities is available to donors who wish to support the Clinical Simulation Center.

Gross Anatomy Lab
In response to Arkansas’ growing health care demands, the UAMS College of Medicine is increasing its student enrollment and expanding its existing Gross Anatomy Lab to accommodate more students.  Gross Anatomy is an essential component of any medical education.

Private support is critical to UAMS’ Gross Anatomy Lab $2.3 million expansion and renovation.  Donors may take advantage of naming opportunities ranging from $2,000 to $1 million.

Center for Distance Health
The UAMS Center for Distance Health practices telemedicine in rural Arkansas so that all Arkansans have access to first-class medical care.  The center is working with rural health care providers to provide greater access to subspecialty care in their communities.

Currently, the College of Medicine is working to raise $2 million to establish new sites in rural emergency rooms, renovate space for a centralized Center for Distance Health, and build infrastructure within the state.

Clinical and Basic Science Research
Today, literally hundreds of research projects are under way in the UAMS College of Medicine–both clinical and basic science research crossing all disciplines.  By investing in research, we will ensure that our scientists have what they need to explore new ideas and develop new therapeutic strategies that will define the future practice of medicine.

Endowed Chairs

The highest academic honor that a university can bestow on a faculty member, the Endowed Chair represents a university’s commitment to excellence.  An Endowed Chair provides a permanent source of funding to further a faculty member’s research or to support other areas such as student research.

An Endowed Chair can be established at UAMS with cumulative gifts of $1 million or more.  The College of Medicine is currently working to establish Endowed Chairs in the following areas:
  • Neurosurgery
  • ALS Research
  • Center for Translational Neuroscience
