Psychiatric Research Institute

The UAMS Psychiatric Research Institute
Psychiatric disorders deny us our joy of life, our memories, and our peace of mind. They can even spell the end of life by suicide.

In Arkansas, only 50 percent of those with depression receive treatment of any kind. Nearly 140,000 children in the state suffer from mental disorders. Chances are mental illness has touched a member of your family, a co-worker or a friend. Left untreated, it can be as serious as heart disease and cancer.

With your help, all Arkansans can have better access to mental health care. Through expanded facilities and research that gives hope for the future, we can treat the disorders that cripple our families and our workforce.

The New UAMS Psychiatric Research Institute
The new Psychiatric Research Institute (PRI) at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, which opened its doors in December 2008, is one of the most innovative psychiatric treatment and research facilities in the nation.
It offers outpatient clinics, inpatient care and research space in one state-of-the-art structure designed to treat up to 5,000 more Arkansans each year.  It is one of only nine such facilities in the nation.

How you can help
Your donations help establish stable funding for Psychiatric care and research — making certain that the healthcare needs of our community will always be met.

UAMS is currently involved in a comprehensive campaign to ensure a healthier future for Arkansans. A significant portion of Campaign Imagine, which has a goal of $325 million, will be designated to fund critical initiatives within the Graduate School.

Please consider supporting the Psychiatric Research Institute at UAMS. Your gifts are important and appreciated. Make an online donation and designate your gift to PRI.

Help Us Reach More Arkansans
Your gift will help us reach more Arkansans with more programs. With the cost savings that will result from the consolidation of our offices, expanding our clinical, educational, research and community service programs will become a reality. Arkansans deserve to have the finest Psychiatric Research Institute available and your generosity will make this happen. Give onlin

Funding Opportunities
Your gift can make the difference in thousands of lives, giving hope to those suffering from untreated mental disorders.

The expanded space will allow us to add the following specialty treatment programs as funds become available.

  • Treatment for addictive disorders involving alcohol and drugs
  • Behavioral change program targeting eating disorders, high-risk sexual behavior and non-compliance with medical treatment.
  • Treatment programs for severe head injuries, schizophrenia and depressive disorders.
  • A psychotherapy program providing clinical care and education.
