Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery
At the Center for Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, our caring and compassionate specialists treat injuries and conditions that have not responded to treatment elsewhere.
Robert Lumsden, M.D., F.A.C.S., who leads the surgery center, studied under Alfred B. Swanson, M.D., a renowned pioneer in modern hand surgical techniques.
We provide expert, personalized evaluation and treatment for everything from the most common problems to the most complex. Our UAMS specialists are qualified to treat any condition of the hand, forearm and wrist, including tumors.
The conditions treated include:
- Work-related and other traumatic injuries
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Cumulative trauma disorders (overuse syndrome)
- Congenital hand injuries and deformities
- Upper extremity pain problems
- Nerve disorders, injuries and compression syndromes
The Center for Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery staff members believe that therapy is an important step in treating acute injuries and chronic problems, and they work closely with UAMS' occupational therapists to ensure a full recovery following surgery.
