Since cancer is common, you probably have at least one relative who has experienced cancer at some point in his or her life.
As many as 10% of those diagnosed with some forms of cancer have an "inherited" cancer, which refers to cancer that may be passed down from parents to children. Some of these cancers can be prevented in families we know are at high risk.
There are over 50 described cancer syndromes, each of which may have different but important implications for your care. So accurate diagnosis is very important.
The UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute is home to Arkansas' only clinical cancer genetics clinic. Our genetics physicians are the only doctors in Arkansas specializing in the diagnosis and management of cancer syndromes.
Our caring and compassionate genetics specialists are available to discuss a preventive healthcare plan for you
and your family to address individual concerns. Cancer genetics specialists may include genetic counselors and advanced practice nurses with special training in cancer genetics. Please contact us to learn more about how our UAMS Cancer Institute can be of service to you and your family.
