Northwest Arkansas Campus
 UAMS Northwest
To address the shortage of health professionals in Arkansas, UAMS announced plans in 2006 to establish a satellite campus in northwest Arkansas.

Renovation work started in 2009 on the 325,000-square-foot former Washington Regional Medical Center building in Fayetteville to house the satellite campus. The facility also will be the new home for the UAMS Area Health Education Center Northwest.

The renovations will create classrooms, teaching laboratories, offices for the satellite campus along with clinic space and other facilities for the AHEC. The first phases of the renovation work are expected to be completed in 2009.

The first six medical students arrived to begin clinical rotations on the campus in July 2009. Eventual enrollment at the satellite campus is expected to be between 250-300 with students in medical, pharmacy, nursing and allied health programs, along with resident physicians who will be serving residencies at area hospitals and clinics.
