Volunteering
Volunteering at UAMS Medical Center
Volunteers play an important and intricate role in the life of the UAMS campus. In all capacities, volunteers have made the commitment to give of their time and care in order to make the hospital community seem more inviting and friendly. This important commitment helps to enrich patients, their families and the UAMS experience.
Additionally, volunteers are rewarded by the relationships they have the opportunity to foster with patients, faculty, staff and fellow volunteers. Thus, in giving of their time, volunteers receive valuable leadership skills, patient care skills and various other abilities paramount in the life of health care.
The UAMS Medical Center Volunteer Mission Statement:
The mission of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Volunteer Services Department is to uphold the greater UAMS mission and vision to teach, heal, search and serve through compassionate and informed volunteer services.
UAMS Medical Center Auxiliary
The UAMS Medical Center Auxiliary is committed to providing for the needs of the patients and visitors of the UAMS Medical Center. Part of that commitment includes giving back to programs and departments on campus that are doing work that directly promotes, improves and advances the welfare, health and comfort of the patients of UAMS.
Each year the Auxiliary gives thousands of dollars to the UAMS community. This money provides things like blanket warmers for patients in the endoscopy lab, a new fetal heart monitor and car seats among other things.
The Auxiliary also funds clothing and materials for patients who would otherwise have no comforts of home during their hospital stay. The Auxiliary, along with the CARE program, started a new program giving admission bags to every new patient. The bags contain necessary toiletry items at no charge to patients.
UAMS Gift Shop
The UAMS gift shop, located on the first floor of the hospital near admissions, is staffed by the UAMS Medical Center Auxiliary. Shoppers also can feel good about gift shop purchases since all are tax exempt, with all revenue used to help patient care programs at UAMS.
The gift shop offers greeting cards and many gift items to choose from in all shapes and sizes. The gift shop is open five days a week. All major credit cards are accepted.
