New Clinical Facilities
The heritage of UAMS is that of an institution
renowned for treating difficult and complex cases. This deserved status
has been fueled by and simultaneously led to an influx of some of the
world’s preeminent medical professionals. To capitalize on this
reputation and to ensure that the brightest minds continue to be
available to our community, constructing facilities that mirror the
assembled talent is essential.
New State-of-the-art Hospital
U.S.News & World Report has repeatedly recognized the UAMS Medical
Center as one of “America’s Best.” However, the aging 50-year-old
facility and the commitment to superior care that is the UAMS standard,
ledt to the creation of our new, state-of-the-art hospital. Just some
of the improvements the new hospital boasts include additional
inpatient, outpatient and intensive care beds. These, coupled with
advanced emergency, cardiac and surgical care units, provide a crucial
foundation of superior, holistic medical care in Arkansas. Continued
funding for the new hospital will help ensure it remains one of
"America's Best" in the years to come.
Outpatient Cancer Center
In Arkansas, 15,000 new cases of cancer occur each year. It’s a
startling statistic that calls attention to our need to serve our
citizens who fall victim to this dreaded disease. The necessary
expansion already underway will produce impressive results – including
doubling the outpatient center’s current capacity, in addition to
expanding research and laboratory facilities. Another, perhaps even
more important and far-reaching benefit, is the caliber of medical
professionals the upgraded facilities will attract to UAMS and the
influence these individuals will have on our state’s well-being.
Psychiatric Research Institute
Mental illness indiscriminately strikes people of all ages and all
walks of life. Whether it’s a child, sibling, parent or friend, most
will be touched by this disease in one form or another. Constraints due
to limited facilities mean that many Arkansans are unable to receive
the critical mental health care that can change and sometimes save
lives. In fact, 140,000 children in the state suffer from some sort of
mental illness and many often go untreated. The newly opened
Psychiatric Research Institute and its capacity to care for 70,000
people a year, provides immeasurable benefits for patients in need of
care and families in need of comfort. Funding for this center to
continue it's mission is critical.
Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging
By 2020, there will be as many retired people as there are children in
Arkansas – making this program absolutely critical to the future of our
state. The Reynolds Institute on Aging can ensure that Arkansas’ aging
population is cared for in a thoughtful, proactive manner, and will
facilitate not only an improved standard of care, but also an enhanced
quality of life. Funding this effort will result in more space for
rehabilitation services, in addition to bolstering research and
educational efforts for Alzheimer’s disease, stroke and other
age-related complications.
Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute
Loss of sight can be one of the most frightening and debilitating of
medical conditions. Discouragingly, it’s a problem that influences the
lives of a disproportionate number of Arkansans – our state currently
ranks third in new cases of blindness each year. Fortunately for the
affected, the Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute at UAMS is one
of only 20 free-standing facilities in the nation. Funding for this
center to continue its indispensable educational, clinical and research
missions has never been more imperative.
Upgrading of Existing Facilities
Unlike the more visible current and future UAMS endeavors, funding is
always necessary to make less visible, but equally imperative changes.
Reconfiguring class space, making renovations and accommodating
unforeseen patient needs are just some of the ways these vital funds
can be allocated. The availability of these funds enables UAMS to
quickly and seamlessly address any situation as it occurs, without
compromising care or services. |
Faculty & Research Chairs and Professorships
Despite the indispensable nature of technology, people always have and
always will be the ones who teach, nurture, heal and care. Faculty
chairs and professorships are necessary to attract outstanding
teachers, researchers and clinicians in all disciplines. This means the
best-trained doctors, nurses, pharmacists and technicians will always
be here to serve the people of Arkansas and beyond.
Funding this campaign will enable UAMS to double the current number of
endowed faculty chairs from 75 to 150, while also adding a significant
number of professorships. These esteemed educators will make UAMS even
more desirable for potential students, thus helping generate an even
larger and more talented pool of future caregivers for our state.
Research Endowments and Program Support
The never-ending search for innovations in curing, treatment and
prevention is one of the most noble and fundamental components of the
UAMS system. This is another area where private funding can attract the
personnel and construct the facilities, that when merged, can generate
amazing results. Philanthropy in this category can make a difference in
a variety of disciplines at UAMS, including UAMS Researchcancer, eye,
biomedical, age-related research and more.
Scholarships and Educational Opportunities
Providing exemplary patient care today, while simultaneously training
the caregivers of tomorrow, is what has defined UAMS for more than a
century. The ability to educate and train the next generation of our
state’s medical professionals is greatly enhanced through generous
private contributions. Your help will also provide for expanded
educational space, including libraries and classrooms, as well as
advanced teaching techniques and more interactive TV or Internet
curricula.
Patient and Public Education
Empowering Arkansans with the knowledge to help them live healthier is
yet another paramount objective of UAMS. Educating the public on
lifestyle changes to facilitate feeling and living better can be
adequately funded through donations to these programs. In addition to
classes and support groups, your gifts will help subsidize the
initiation or strengthening of an array of programs. This will include
efforts ranging from pediatric diabetes and childhood asthma to cancer
screenings and arthritis treatment and research.
Statewide Outreach
Often, those with the most urgent need for UAMS services are unable to
receive them due to the remote locations in which they live.
Compounding this problem is the fact that nearly one in five Arkansans
lives below the poverty level and many are without health insurance.
Your gifts to this program will help UAMS support the efforts of health
care providers in small towns who give care to those who need it most.
Funding will create more clinics in rural areas, offer primary care for
our elderly and young, provide Web-based consultation, educational
programs and much more.
Emerging Opportunity Funds
Many crucial funding needs cannot be accurately forecasted. This makes
having an adequate reserve to react to unanticipated expenses a
necessity. Unrestricted funds for emerging opportunities create the
flexibility for UAMS leaders to act quickly when needed. These gifts
will finance student and faculty travel for continuing education,
replace outdated equipment and provide research seed money. |
