Development & Alumni Affairs
The Office of Development & Alumni Affairs is an integrated function of donor and alumni relations and fundraising that seeks to secure resources and support for the UAMS Foundation Fund for the benefit of UAMS.

Mission
The primary mission of Development and Alumni Affairs is to secure gifts and grants that support the fourfold mission of UAMS – to teach, to search, to serve, and to heal.

Overview
Our mission is accomplished through a comprehensive program directed at primary constituencies: individuals, foundations, corporations and alumni.  Development and Alumni Affairs supports fundraising efforts for all units of UAMS, including its colleges, institutes, centers of excellence, and departments

The Development and Alumni Affairs office is divided into six departments: administration, development services, development operations, constituent relations, planned giving and development programs. There are a total of thirty-four staff members, including fifteen development officers serving all units of the campus.

Building strong relationships between friends of UAMS and our programs is a key to institutional advancement.  Donor Development Programs engage and involve friends in meaningful relationship with UAMS through the Chancellor’s Circle, the Society of Double Helix,  the Legacy Society, and other special recognition events and projects throughout the year.

The Development and Alumni Affairs office is also responsible for record keeping and. Approximately 18,000 transactions are processed through some 1,300 foundation accounts.

UAMS Overview
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences depends heavily on the financial support of others to advance and pursue excellence in medical education, treatment and research.

While the State of Arkansas provides UAMS a small portion of its annual funding, UAMS encourages others interested in quality medical care for the state to join in providing financial support to UAMS.

Private gifts enable UAMS to assist worthy but financially struggling students in continuing their education, attract and retain outstanding faculty and staff, endow academic and medical programming and research, and take advantage of other important opportunities.  All areas of the University benefit from private gifts.

Voluntary support plays an increasingly vital role in our growth and progress.  The Office of Development and Alumni Affairs at UAMS, through well defined fundraising programs, strives to attract private donations and forge strong relationships with the community served by the University.

The Office of Development and Alumni Affairs at UAMS is a part of the University of Arkansas (“UA”) Foundation serving the interests of the Medical Sciences campus.  The UA Foundation office handles all charitable gifts to university accounts.  A gift is defined as a contribution that is bestowed voluntarily without expectation of any tangible compensation.  It is usually in the form of cash, securities, real property, gifts-in-kind, or other forms of gifts.

The University of Arkansas Foundation, Inc.
The University of Arkansas Foundation, Inc. is a charitable corporation created under and by the laws of the state of Arkansas. The corporation is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.

The primary purpose of the Foundation is to advance higher education by securing private financial support for all units and activities of the University of Arkansas. To that end the Foundation is authorized to receive, hold, invest, manage and control property which may be acquired by the Foundation, and to distribute or use such assets for the benefit of the University of Arkansas in accordance with the purposes stipulated by the donors, grantors, or testators.

The Foundation values each donor and each gift. We will disclose fully to donors and prospective donors the policies and programs of the Foundation, but will keep confidential those matters requested by donors.

Relation of Foundation to University of Arkansas
Although the University of Arkansas Foundation, Inc. is the primary avenue of giving to support academic programs at all campuses of the University of Arkansas, there are other organizations through which donations to the University may be received. On some campuses, the alumni associations accept donations for the support of various activities, and the Razorback Foundation, which is separate from the University of Arkansas Foundation, is the major fund raiser for intercollegiate athletics on the Fayetteville campus.

The University of Arkansas Foundation is governed by a twenty-two member Board of Directors, only four of which are members of the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees. The Fayetteville and Agricultural Development Councils and the five Foundation Funds elect two members each to the board of directors and four members are elected at-large by the other members of the board. The Councils and Funds which assist in raising funds for the various units are as follows:

•    University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Foundation Fund
•    Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute Foundation Fund
•    University of Arkansas at Little Rock Foundation Fund
•    University of Arkansas at Fayetteville Development Council
•    University of Arkansas at Monticello Foundation Fund
•    University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Foundation Fund
•    Agricultural Development Council
