Palliative Care/Hospice
Clinic FAQ and Directions
The Palliative Care Program at UAMS provides compassionate therapies intended to comfort and support patients and families who are living with serious illness, while being sensitive and respectful of their spiritual, cultural and personal beliefs, values and traditions. Our caring staff members work to prevent and relieve suffering and to improve quality of life for our patients.
Dr. A. Reed Thompson
is director of hospice and palliative care. He is assisted by
Dr. Sarah Harrington
and an interdisciplinary team that includes a
chaplain
, social workers and nurses. Drs. Thompson and Harrington hold appointments in the Division of
Medical Oncology and Hematology
and in the Department of Geriatrics at the Donald W. Reynolds
Institute on Aging
.
Patients may be referred to this program when goals of care change from treating the illness to making sure the patient is comfortable when facing end-of-life situations. The team also addresses pain management concerns and provides medical direction to selected hospice programs.
Please contact us to learn more about our Palliative Care services at UAMS.
