Radiation Oncology
Our radiation oncology service is a leading provider of radiation therapy in Arkansas. Together with the diagnostic and research resources of the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, we can offer a multidisciplinary approach to cancer treatment.
Based in the Central Arkansas Radiation Therapy Institute (CARTI) facility at UAMS, we offer advanced radiation oncologic care using the latest techniques and tools. Our intent is to improve quality of life for Arkansas' cancer patients through more precise treatment.
For certain types of cancer, radiation therapy alone is the best treatment. However, radiation is often used in conjunction with surgery, chemotherapy or both, and survival rates for combination therapy in these cases are greater than for any single type of therapy. Our multidisciplinary approach will find the most effective course of treatment for each patient.
Among the tools we use are intensity modulated radiation therapy, helical tomotherapy, respiratory gated radiation therapy, brachytherapy for treatment of prostate, and breast cancer and stereotactic radiosurgery using the advanced Gamma Knife.
