College of Public Health

Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health, a CEPH (Council on Education for Public Health) accredited school/program, improves health and promotes the well-being of individuals, families, and communities in Arkansas through education, research, and service.

The college, established in July 2001, is the newest academic unit at UAMS and working in collaboration with the other academic units at UAMS (the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Health Related Professions as well as the Graduate School), it brings a different perspective to the Medical Center's traditional medical care services.

Public Health is the science of protecting and improving the health of communities through education, promotion of healthy lifestyles, and research for disease and injury prevention.

The UAMS Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health is working to personify the very definition of public health through the work of world-class students and faculty who improve the lives of Arkansans, whole communities at a time.

H
ow You Can Help
Your donations help establish stable funding for the College of Public Health — making certain that the healthcare needs of our community will always be met.

The stark reality of the medical needs facing our communities and our state has never been more evident. For every life positively impacted by the various missions of UAMS, there are countless others, that, with additional hospital resources, could also benefit immeasurably. It is this reality that provides confirmation that your gifts are truly necessary and have the genuine power to change lives.

Imagine the future of healthcare and join us in our campaign to ensure a healthier future for Arkansans. A significant portion of our campaign, Campaign Imagine, will be designated to fund critical initiatives within the College of Public Health.

Funding Opportunities
Listed here are just some of the opportunities to be part of the College’s amazing achievements.

Endowed Chairs
Because the College is less than 10 years old and competing with long-established institutions for the most preeminent faculty leaders, distinctive offerings such as endowed chairs can help attract and retain these scholars and their research and teaching programs.  A donor who funds the full endowment may name the Chair in perpetuity in honor or memory of someone if desired.

Endowed Scholarships
At the same time that the United States population is growing and public health threats are increasing, the public health workforce is shrinking. In addition, with the impending retirement of “baby-boomers”, public health faces potential severe workforce shortages in the next decade or two.  Dependable financial assistance for public health student scholars has never been more urgent. About half the counties in Arkansas have residents enrolled in public health classes, some driving up to 500 miles each week. Some undergo considerable hardship to attend, rearing families or caring for aging parents, or both. Establishment of endowed scholarships ensures that financial assistance is available year after year, and the scholarships may be named for someone dear to you.

Endowed Community Outreach Fund

“To improve the health of all Arkansans” is the mission of the College of Public Health, and involving all Arkansans is critical to the effort.  Taking faculty and students outside the classroom to work with local communities is a fundamental responsibility of the College.

Communities are empowered to address their own issues, using the College as a resource for data gathering and analysis, health information and education, research, and other types of technical assistance.  An endowed Community Outreach Fund will enable us to share our faculty and their knowledge as widely as possible among Arkansas communities, as well as to bring in outstanding leaders from around the nation to share their expertise with our students, faculty, and communities. The health of Arkansas as a whole will improve with citizens, practitioners, and academicians working together and teaching each other.
