Dr. Sudir Shah and World Kidney Day
Dr. Sudir Shah
UAMS Division of Nephrology
UAMS is home to a leading kidney disease researcher,
Sudir Shah, M.D., F.A.C.P
. Dr. Shah, the director of our UAMS Division of Nephrology, is well known for his work on oxidative stress as a factor in chronic or progressive kidney disease.
Dr. Shah also developed
World Kidney Day
to draw attention to kidney disease as a growing health crisis in Arkansas and around the globe.
World Kidney Day is an initiative of two global, non-profit organizations – the International Society of Nephrology and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations of which Shah is co-chair. It was launched for the first time in 2006 and it is held the second Thursday of March. In 2007, World Kidney Day was celebrated in 66 countries; by 2008 the number participating increased to 88 countries and territories and six continents.
